Veteran's Day

We have been very excited for Veteran's Day. Of course, the boys have especially been into all of our discussions. I have a TON of family and friends who are currently serving in the Armed Forces or who are veterans themselves, so this holiday is a biggie for me! :)

Being the PebbleGo addicts that we are, we just had to find Veteran's Day in our new Social Studies section. Luckily they had it! We researched on PebbleGo and created a Kidspiration Circle Map for all the things that we know about the holiday. The kids get really excited to use all this technology. It makes learning really fun and meaningful for them. I have to admit sometimes I need their help, but we love learning things together!

We also created tear art soldiers. Instead of actually tearing the paper, I thought the camouflage would probably look better if we cut tiny squares. I like the way they turned out! I taught the kids how to use liquid glue, so they were extremely pumped! We talked about how "a dot is a lot" and luckily there was hardly any mess! Everyone was SO helpful to work together to clean up the little mess that did appear. I am so grateful to have such a wonderful class this year. They always work together as a team. After we made our soldiers, we created another Circle Map for Veteran's Day and then a Tree Map for veterans.

As a side note, in math we have been practicing addition and subtraction still. We're focusing on fact families right now so we made some fact family houses. We discussed how each family has the same people in it, so each fact family will always use the same 3 numbers. The daddy is the biggest number, the mommy is the middle number, and the baby is the smallest number. I gave everyone their own domino, and they made a house for their facts. The houses came out pretty cute, and thinking of actually families seemed to help some of our little ones who've been struggling with fact families.
